Visegrad Blues Band (2004)
This band, it could be claimed, is proof that politics can have a positive effect in music. The Visegrad Blues Band is made up of a collection of very well known musicians from the area known as the 'Visegrad Four'ie. The Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and Hungary. The band is fronted by the unique Slovak singer Peter Lipa and Polish guitar wizard, Leszek Cichonski. This is complemented by solos from Zbygnief Jakub for Poland on keyboards and Czech harmonica player, Ondřej Konrád. The rhythm section, drummer Janos Solti and bass player Egon Poka, is Hungarian with its roots in the legendary groups Locomotiv GT and HoBo Blues Band. The repertoire of this, more or less occassional, ensemble is made up mainly of original arrangements of Blues standards plus a few of Cichonski's own instrumental numbers. According to Ondřej Konrád the main purpose of Visegrad Blues Band is as a get-together for a bunch of musicians who don't usually play together.
